NeoGraft: the faster, scarless alternative to hair transplantation

For many men and women, hair loss can negatively impact many aspects of their lives, but many still struggle to find suitable treatment options or don’t want to undergo a surgical hair transplant.

With the introduction of NeoGraft to Australia, it’s now easier than ever to effectively address hair loss and thinning hair for men and women.

NeoGraft by Venus Concept is a trusted name in hair restoration. Using cutting-edge technology, it offers a minimally invasive hair restoration with natural-looking results, no visible linear scar, less discomfort and a faster recovery time.

Unlike the traditional strip method, which requires a strip of skin to be removed from your scalp, the NeoGraft micrograft hair transplant procedure does not require a scalpel. Instead, it utilises an automated handpiece that harvests the hair follicles quickly and precisely – and affords you little to no discomfort during the hair transplant procedure.

The revolutionary system uses automated Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and implantation technology that allows hair follicles to be harvested directly from the scalp in their naturally occurring groups of one to three hairs.

The advanced technology comfortably extracts individual hair follicles from the donor site (usually the back and sides of the scalp where hair is resistant to balding) and then implants those grafts where it’s needed, at the site of hair loss, where they will regrow as healthy hair.

The implanted hair follicles work with the natural hair growth cycle and results continue to improve each week, with the final outcome apparent at around 9-12 months post-procedure.

For many of our patients, NeoGraft has been a life-changing procedure!

At Pavilion Cosmetic Medicine, we consult with every patient prior to undergoing the procedure to ensure that every treatment plan is tailored to each individuals’ goals for an optimal outcome.

What to expect?

NeoGraft Consultation and Treatment Planning

You’ll first have a consultation with one of our doctors experienced in the NeoGraft procedure. Your doctor will listen to your concerns and hair goals, explain the procedure in detail and answer any questions you have.

During consultation you’ll be advised on the likely number of grafts required to achieve your desired results, anticipated length of the procedure and any preparation required before the actual procedure.

NeoGraft Procedure

Your doctor will first numb the donor site with local anaesthetic before the NeoGraft device makes tiny incisions to extract individual hair follicles. Follicles are sorted by size, and the individual follicles are placed into the thinning areas.

NeoGraft is performed in-clinic at Pavilion Cosmetic Medicine. The length of the procedure varies, depending on the number of grafts that are to be transplanted, and could be between 4 and 10 hours. (For reference, traditional FUE transplant surgery can take multiple days for a large number of grafts.)

You should feel little to no discomfort during the procedure. Some patients choose to take a mild sedative to help them relax.

Downtime and Recovery

There’s usually little pain or discomfort after the NeoGraft procedure and you can typically resume everyday activities the next day.

The newly implanted hair follicles will be slightly raised for a week or so after. You can also expect them to start scabbing around 3 to 4 days post procedure and possibly shed.

Your doctor will instruct you on how to properly care for and protect your new grafts and you will be given detailed information for when you go home.

Most of our patients return to work after 2-3 days, and can resume normal exercise, etc, after around 2 weeks.

Your Questions Answered

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

What is a NeoGraft hair transplant treatment?

NeoGraft® by Venus Concept is one of the newest and most advanced hair transplantation techniques that leverages the method called Follicular Unit Extraction (or ‘FUE’). The NeoGraft device and technology utilises the FUE technique in a semi-automated manner, thus allowing for a tailored treatment to each individuals’ goals to ensure a natural look.

During the NeoGraft FUE hair transplantation treatment, one of our trained hair technician at Pavilion Cosmetic Medicine will take steps to move individual hair follicles manually, from either from the back or sides of the head, then taking steps to re-implant the hair follicles to the target region for continued growth.

How many grafts can be extracted with NeoGraft?

As long as you have enough donor hair density, NeoGraft can extract more than 2,000 grafts during a procedure.

Will everyone notice I’ve had a hair restoration procedure?

No! NeoGraft is very discreet and you will be left with no visible scarring. If you have long hair, the donor areas can be shaved in a way that is as inconspicuous as possible while it is growing back.

What’s the difference between NeoGraft, FUE and FUT methods?

During FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) surgery, a strip of scalp will be taken from the donor site (usually the back or side of the head) before removing individual follicles and then manually implanting the hair. The linear scar is often noticeable if you wear your hair short.

During FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) surgery, the surgeon extracts and implants the hair follicles manually.

NeoGraft is a type of FUE procedure, however the process is automated, making the procedure more efficient and comfortable with less margin for error.

Since this technique is minimally invasive, it may have a lower chance of surgical complications, especially compared with FUT surgery which involves cutting a strip of skin from your scalp.

NeoGraft is also quicker than traditional FUE, which can take multiple days for a large number of grafts.

Is NeoGraft better than FUE?

The NeoGraft treatment is one of many methods of FUE, with NeoGraft using advanced technology and techniques to achieve optimal results. NeoGraft is semi-automated, this reducing the margin for error and allowing personalisation in the treatment.

NeoGraft is widely known to be faster than the traditional FUE procedure. This is because NeoGraft’s technology arms the experienced hair technician with the toolset for optimal precision, while being speed and effective. The NeoGraft significantly shortens the procedure duration when compared to the manual extraction and transplantation of hair follicles.

How long does it take for NeoGraft hair to grow?

While there are individual factors to take into consideration from patient-to-patient, as a guide, it takes between 4-6 months to see noticeable NeoGraft hair growth. Different individuals grow hair at different rates and based on several individualised factors, including their genetics, hormone levels, stress and nutrition (amongst others). With these various factors considered, after a NeoGraft FUE procedure a patient may expect to see identifiable hair regrowth from the transplanted follicles between 4-6 months.

Will NeoGraft leave scars?

NeoGraft does not leave a long, thin scar as with FUT surgery. However, it may cause tiny pinpoint scarring where the follicles were removed. These minute scars shouldn’t be visible to the naked eye.

Do I need to shave my head before NeoGraft treatment?

No, only the donor area needs to be shaved down. For people with longer hair, this can be done in an inconspicuous way.

How many NeoGraft sessions will I need?

Usually only one NeoGraft procedure is required to achieve your desired results.

How much does NeoGraft cost?

Cost varies depending on the size of the region/area of the scalp being treated, and the number of hair follicles being extracted and transplanted. As a guide, a typical cost range is between $8,000 and $15,000. We tailor plans to each individual patients’ head and their personal goals – and we also have packages available to attain holistic results.

The first step is to book a Doctor consultation, in which our physician will discuss your goals with view to tailor a treatment plan aligned with your desired results.
