Dermal Filler treatments tailored to your goals

Dermal filler treatments are performed by Cosmetic Doctors-only at PCM

The radiant glow of youth is often associated with smooth skin, plump contours, full lips and well-defined cheeks and jawline. As we age, fine lines and wrinkles appear, facial fat deflates and descends, and the contours of the face can start to lose definition.

While we can’t turn back time, dermal fillers are quite possibly the next best thing, helping us look younger, fresher and enhancing our own unique beauty.

Whether you want to soften lines and wrinkles, minimise the appearance of tear troughs, enhance your cheekbones or add volume to your lips, dermal fillers offer a quick and convenient solution with immediate results.

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are gel-like substances injected under the skin to smooth and fill wrinkles and lines and add volume to specific areas of the face.

Modern dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the body that depletes with age. It plays a key role in keeping our skin looking plump and hydrated. Hyaluronic acid also helps collagen and elastin fibres band together, improving skin structure and elasticity.

Types of dermal fillers

We use a variety of best-in-class dermal fillers at Pavilion Cosmetic Medicine, each specifically designed for use in different parts of the face.

Dermal fillers range in longevity, composition and viscosity. Our expert injectors are experienced in choosing the right filler, the correct amount of volume required and precise placement of the filler to achieve the best possible results.

Dermal fillers range from soft to firm – softer fillers are often used for lip augmentation or tear trough treatment under the eyes, while firmer, more viscous fillers are used to add volume to the cheeks and chin or contour the jawline. More permanent fillers can even be used to reshape the nose (non-surgical rhinoplasty).

Dermal fillers can be used for:

Results

The results of dermal filler injections are visible immediately and can last anywhere from 6-18 months and beyond.

The longevity of results depends on the type of filler, amount and depth of filler injected, where it’s injected, the level of movement/animation of the treated area, and the speed at which you naturally metabolise the filler. For example, cheek filler can last up to 18 months while lip fillers will typically last 5-7 months.

Our expert injectors are highly skilled and experienced in the different types of dermal fillers and advanced injection techniques. Together, we will tailor a treatment plan designed to give you the results you desire – whether a small change or a more noticeable enhancement.

What to expect

Doctor Consultation

At Pavilion Cosmetic Medicine, we aim to provide the very best dermal filler experience in Sydney, starting with your initial consultation. Your concerns and goals will be discussed with one of our expert injectors, who will be able to explain your treatment options and what is realistically expected in terms of results.

For most patients, after your initial consultation, you are able to proceed straight to your treatment.

Procedure

A numbing cream is typically applied before your treatment to keep you as comfortable as possible. The filler is injected using a very fine needle, allowing precise treatment of the desired area.

Treatment times vary from 15 to 30 minutes. Between two and four weeks after your initial treatment session, you may require a top-up at review.

Downtime and Recovery

Following your treatment, there may be some swelling and the chance of bruising at the injection site, which should disappear within 1-5 days.

While there is minimal downtime and you can usually resume your everyday activities straightaway, we do recommend planning your treatment when you don’t have an event within the following few days in case of bruising and swelling.

Your Questions Answered

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

What’s the difference between wrinkle relaxers and dermal fillers?

Both wrinkle relaxing injections and dermal fillers reverse signs of facial ageing and rejuvenate the face, however they do this in very different ways.

Wrinkle relaxers work by blocking wrinkle-causing muscles. They are commonly injected into the muscles that form crow’s feet wrinkles around the eyes, frown lines between the brows and forehead lines. Dermal fillers on the other hand are volumising agents designed to replace lost volume by “filling in” wrinkles and lines and augmenting specific areas of the face such as the cheeks and lips.

Wrinkle relaxers and dermal fillers are often used together to create a more holistic and comprehensive facial rejuvenation and complement the anti-ageing results of both treatments.

Do filler injections hurt?

Numbing cream is applied 30 minutes prior, so you should feel very little or no discomfort during your treatment. In addition, most dermal fillers are formulated with lidocaine, a local anaesthetic, to further increase your level of comfort.

Is there any downtime or recovery?

Dermal fillers are considered minimally invasive and require no downtime or time off work for recovery. Some bruising, swelling and tenderness should be expected at the injections sites after dermal filler treatment, but this should gradually subside over the next few days and can be covered with makeup. The amount of swelling will depend on the area treated and the type of filler used.

If you have a social event coming up, we usually advise you to have your treatment at least  3-5 days beforehand.

How long does dermal filler last?

Fillers can last from 6-18 months, but this varies from patient to patient, depending on individual circumstances, lifestyle factors and the type of fillers used.

In general, the denser the filler and the deeper it is injected, the longer it will last.

Fillers used in highly animated areas, such as in the lips and around the eyes will not be as long lasting as those used for cheek enhancement. As a general rule of thumb, lip filler lasts around 5-7 months, and cheek filler lasts around 12-18 months.

Are dermal fillers safe?

All dermal fillers used at Pavilion Cosmetic Medicine are listed with the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and have been extensively tested and researched for safety and efficacy.

Finding the right practitioner to perform your dermal filler treatment is key. All of our injectors are highly trained and experienced in dermal filler treatment and proper injection techniques and are overseen by our Medical Director Dr Gavin Scriven.

In experienced hands, by a skilled and qualified injector, dermal filler treatment is deemed safe and effective, offering consistent and natural-looking outcomes.

How much do dermal fillers cost?

The cost of dermal filler treatment varies, depending on the type of filler used, the amount needed and the area to be treated. At Pavilion Cosmetic Medicine, we work with you to tailor treatment to your needs, goals and budget.
