Hear from our Threads Specialist, Dr Gavin Scriven

Dr Gavin Scriven [MBBS, FRACGP, FACAM] | Cosmetic Physician and Medical Director

It’s inevitable that as we get older we start to notice sagging skin on our face, neck and body, coupled with changes in the texture and quality of our skin. Thread lifting offers a non-surgical solution to correct these age-related changes and can achieve outstanding results with low downtime.

Why choose us?

Our Cosmetic Physicians, Dr Gavin Scriven (@dr.gavscriv) and Dr Toshi Zia (@dr_toshi_), each have a special interest in Thread Lifting for face, neck, and body. Our Doctors have been performing these treatments for many years after having trained in thread lifting techniques locally and internationally. Some have been trainers for Silhouette Soft Threads and APTOS.

Our Doctor team also specialise in a variety of different types of threads to address our clients’ individual concerns and depending on the face, neck or body area; including APTOS, Silhouette Soft, MINT and Korean PDO Long and Short Mono Threads.

With our depth of experience we will develop a tailored treatment plan for your personal goals and our holistic medical assessment.

What is a thread lift?

Thread lifting is a minimally invasive technique that lifts the soft tissues of the face, neck or body. The procedure involves the use of multiple biocompatible threads inserted under the skin to lift and support the underlying skin tissues, pulling the skin at specific vectors to achieve a natural-looking contoured result.

Acting as a kind of scaffolding, threads typically have unique cogs or barbs which attach to the tissue as they lift the skin, complementing the natural line of the face or neck, or other parts of the body such as the knees, arms, thighs and abdomen.

A thread lift has a two-stage lifting effect: the initial lift is seen immediately as the threads anchor to the tissues under your skin. The secondary lift is through the production of new collagen – as your body gradually dissolves the threads, it generates new collagen in their place, helping to maintain the lifting effect for years to come while also improving skin quality and appearance.

Types of threads and thread lifts

We use a variety of best-in-class threads at Pavilion Cosmetic Medicine, and will advise you on the most appropriate option for you depending on your treatment needs, area of the body to be treated, as well as your individual requirements and preferences. All of the threads we use are biodegradable and medical-grade and have been extensively used in surgical procedures for many years.

Medical Director Dr Gav and his team are skilled and experienced in the latest and most advanced types of threads. These include Silhouette Soft PLA (polylactic acid) Threads, MINT PDO (polydioxanone) Threads, APTOS (polylactic acid and polycaprolactone), and Korean PDO Long and Mono Threads.

What to expect

Consultation

A Doctor consultation is required prior to treatment. Our Doctor will listen to your concerns, assess your degree of ageing and skin laxity, and develop a personalised treatment plan aligned with your needs and aesthetic objectives. You will also be explained the procedure in detail, we will answer any questions you may have, and give you an understanding of the potential results a thread lift could achieve for you.

During consultation, you will be advised of the thread type suitable and how many threads are required to achieve your desired results.

Procedure

The procedure is performed in our clinic and does not require any incisions or sedation. Local anaesthesia will be injected at entry/exit points and the procedure itself is typically comfortable; you should feel no pain and little discomfort.

The threads are inserted just below the dermis using a long, soft needle or cannula. The skin is gently remodelled and the threads tightened into position. The unique little cones or barbs on the threads connect with tissue and retain skin in the new compressed position. The sensation of threading is much like a standard dermal filler procedure using a micro-cannula.

A thread lifting procedure takes about 60-90 minutes.

Downtime and Recovery

Downtime and recovery are significantly less than traditional surgery, ranging from 2-7 days depending on the extent of your procedure and the area treated.

The most common side effects are mild swelling, bruising and tenderness, which should subside 3-5 days after treatment. Less common risks include infection and nerve damage – always make sure you see a qualified doctor experienced in the thread lifting procedure to help mitigate these risks.

Your Questions Answered

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Can I have multiple thread lifts?

Yes, one of the many benefits of a thread lift is that you can combine different areas of the face and body for a truly harmonious result.

Thread lifts can also be an excellent adjunct to other anti-ageing procedures, such as dermal fillers and wrinkle relaxers, laser skin resurfacing and radiofrequency non-surgical skin tightening.

Am I good candidate for a Thread Lift?

If you are looking to improve mild to moderate sagging on your face, neck or areas of your body such as the knees, elbows, upper arms or thighs, thread lifting offers an excellent option. During your consultation with one of our Cosmetic Doctors, we will assess your degree of skin laxity and skin characteristics before advising on whether a Thread Lift is the best option for you.

If you have more extensive sagging or loose skin, other non-invasive methods or even surgery may be more appropriate to achieve a more dramatic result. We will discuss all considerations with you in detail in your Doctor consultation which is required as the first step.

Is Thread Lifting safe?

Performed by a Doctor specialising in cosmetic treatments and with significant experience in thread lifting techiques, the thread lift predure is low risk, particularly when considerign their minimally invasive nature. As with any cosmetic medical procedure, however, there are certain risks and complications to be aware of, including swelling, infection, asymmetry or nerve damage. A skilled Doctor will help to mitigate these risks, as will following the pre and post-procedure care program provided by our Doctors at Pavilion Cosmetic Medicine.

How much does a Thread Lift cost?

The cost of a Thread Lift will depend on the type of threads used, the body area being treated and the number of threads used in your treatment. During your consultation, our Cosmetic Doctor will advise you of the optimal type and number of threads suited for your unique concerns and we will provide you with a detailed quote.
