- Genetic predisposition
- Hormonal fluctuations
- Inflammation due to skin conditions like acne

The Dermamelan difference
Our Dermamelan treatment provides an intensive corrective action on skin hyperpigmentation while regulating the overproduction of melanin by inhibiting and controlling the reoccurrence of new spots.
It provides long term results by regulating production of excessive pigmentation and short term corrective results by speeding up the skin renewal process, forcing skin shedding and removing melanin deposits.

What to expect
A consultation with our Dermal Clinician is required prior to treatment to discuss your concerns and treatment suitability. We believe in a holistic approach and believe that no two skins are alike which means all our treatment plans are personalised to your skin and treatment goals.
Our Dermal Clinician will explain the procedure, answer any questions you may have, and after assessment will explain the potential results from the Dermamelan depigmenting treatment.
You will walk away from your consultation from our Dermal Clinician with all the information needed to book your treatment, how to prepare your skin prior to and take care of your skin after treatment – and we will provide you with a personalised quote.
The treatment consists of two phases. The in clinic phase involves our Dermal Clinician applying the Dermamelan mask which is left on the skin for 8 to 12 hours depending on your skin type and severity of pigmentation. It is preferred that you book your Dermamelan treatment in the morning so that once it is applied, you may go home to relax and wash it off at night before bed.
You must not sleep with the mask on and you must follow our strict instructions to achieve best results.
The second phase is your at home maintenance that is included in the treatment cost. The provided mesoestetic products are the only product you must use for at least 12 weeks after treatment. Your routine after this time will be provided by our Dermal Clinician and is based on re-assessment of your skin after the 3 months.
After the treatment you must follow our strict and detailed instructions. You will be provided with a post care sheet at your consultation and at the time of your Dermamelan depigmentation treatment.
What to expect post Dermamelan treatment?
Redness – is evident immediately after washing off the mask and can persist up to 2 to 4 weeks after treatment, although, redness generally starts to subside each day from day 7 onwards.
Darkening of pigment – skin will darken along with your hyperpigmentation as it is pushed towards the surface before shedding of. This can last until the shedding phase is over, on average at days 10 to 14.
Skin peeling and dryness – as the skin renews and old skin is pushed to the surface, the skin will peel starting from the centre of the face towards the outer parts. Where you have constant movement (e.g. around the mouth) you will peel faster and more excessively. Please avoid picking at any shedding skin allow the skin to shed naturally.
Sensitiveness – Dermamelan is an intense medical-grade physician only treatment and therefore can cause a temporary impairment of the barrier of the skin. When applying skin care products, you may feel mild burning or tingling that generally subsides after a few minutes.
You will be scheduled to come into the clinic to have a Healite LED therapy session at days 3, 5 and 7 after the Dermamelan treatment – and these sessions are included in the treatment cost.
