Men are often reluctant to discuss intimate health concerns with their Doctors, but frenulum breve is a common condition and there is a simple in-clinic procedure available to resolve symptoms, called Frenuloplasty or Frenulectomy.

Our Doctors and medical teams at Pavilion specialise in medical male enhancement and this life-changing procedure is available at our Crows Nest clinic in Sydney.

Who is affected by a Frenulum Breve?

Because the frenulum is often removed during circumcision, it is much less common for circumcised men to suffer from this condition. However, in countries such as Australia where circumcision rates are very low, up to 5% of men may present with symptoms from Frenulum Breve.

What is a Frenuloplasty or Frenulectomy?

A Frenuloplasty is a quick and painless surgical procedure that can be performed in-clinic by our doctors, using only local anesthetic, to release tightness in the frenulum. The incision will take a couple weeks to heal but patients can expect an increased range of penile motion and pain free erections, making sexual intercourse more enjoyable.

In most cases, it’s not necessary to have a circumcision to repair a short frenulum, only the frenulum itself needs to be released.

What to expect

Consultation

The first thing to do is schedule a consultation with one of our male physicians to discuss your symptoms, have an examination and receive an accurate diagnosis. We can usually schedule a procedural date within two weeks of consult. If you have already been diagnosed with Frenulum Breve by another Doctor, please contact us to discuss booking consultation and procedure on the same day.

Procedure

Frenuloplasty takes about 30-minutes and can be performed using local anesthetic in clinic. The tight band of skin is cut horizontally using a Radiosurgery device, which cauterises the skin as it cuts to minimise bleeding (similar to laser). The glans is rotated upwards and any tightness released. The area is then cleaned and your doctor may use a few tiny dissolving stitches running lengthways along the frenulum to increase its length. Antibiotic ointment is applied and post-care instructions will be explained.

Downtime and Recovery

Post-Procedure

Yes, there will be a bit of discomfort on the day as the local wears off, but most patients can head home within an hour and will be fully healed and back to normal within a couple weeks. We recommend the following:

  • You should clean and dry the wound after passing urine, for 7 days.
  • If a dressing is applied, try to keep it on for about 24 hours, but remove if it gets dirty.
  • The stitches will dissolve in about 2 weeks, avoid touching or pulling them whilst dissolving.
  • Roll down the foreskin twice a day to prevent any sticking and maximize elasticity.
  • It will be slightly tender so best not to have sex or masturbate for a month.
  • Take any prescribed medication as directed and use Paracetamol for pain relief.
  • Don’t go swimming or use spa baths for two weeks.
